My latest passion
These are really terrific machines. I've been using them for several
years now, and have had very little trouble with them. Here are some
links to useful places.
- My set of instructions for an MCA Slackware Linux install.
- Here are some files that can be used for setting up X Windows.
Note that if you're using Netscape you'll probably have to shift-click
on the first two in order to get the Save dialog box.
- xgapos.c The source for the 'xgapos' program
that will help you get all the information you need for XF86Config.
- A text file that explains how to get the
'xgapos' program source and compile it.
- An MCA aware xf86config.
- MCA Linux Homepage
THE place to go for MCA Linux information, and a link to an MCA Linux
forum.
- The Slackware distribution.
Pick a server, and download your preferred version.
- MCA Linux patches.
- Software application support for Linux.
- StarOffice A
productivity suite of applications similar to MS Office, capable of reading
and writing the Office 97 format.
- Corel Corel's Linux distribution, a
Linux port of Corel WordPerfect, and other Corel products.
- The GIMP The GNU Image Manipulation
Program -- similar to Photoshop.
- KDE The K Desktop Environment,
KOffice, and other applications.
What a wonderful learning experience this project has been! I got
the files and installed Linux. The first two links above are my
documentation of the process, plus a little extra that I inferred from
my experiences thrown in. I've also patched and recompiled the kernel,
and documented that in the third link above. Finally, I've worked
my way through the voodoo that is known as setting up XWindows. And I've
found that there is growing support for Linux. The above links to
applications and such are only a sample of what it can do.
